How to Become a Morning Person

We all know the feeling, struggling to wake up in the morning until you had that warm cup-o-Joe in your hands. Mornings can be hard, especially if you enjoy staying up. And if you’re a night owl who’s looking to make the transition toward becoming a morning person, there’s definitely tricks of the trade.

1)      Go to Bed Earlier

An obvious one, but slashing an hour of your day and removing some obligations in the evening can give you more time to decompress from your day and relax. Be stringent on your bed deadline and it will help you waking up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.

2)      Eat Protein For Breakfast

Make room for a hearty breakfast, after all, it is the most important meal of the day. After sleeping at night, your metabolism and blood sugar are very low and need to re-fueled to rid the body’s sluggish feeling. The protein will give you the energy to power through the day and take on the impossible.

3)      Reward Yourself

If you rush in the morning, give yourself time to have a simple treat for waking up. It could be as simple as a great breakfast, a walk with your dog or a good meditation session. These items help you have a reason for waking up.

4)      Exercise

Give yourself some adrenaline in the morning to wake you up and feel great the rest of the day. Research has shown that exercising before breakfast burns more fat calories and results in more weight loss than exercising after breakfast, says Burr Leonard, founder of The Bar Method.

5)      Rely on Natural Lighting

With all the artificial lighting from indoor lights, television, cell phones and more, it’s hard for the body to adjust to what is actually day or night. When you’re getting ready for bed, ease up on the technology to allow your body to adjust. Placing your bed in front of a big window will definitely wake you up and help you become an early riser.
