Why Do You Toss and Turn in the Night?

Sleep should be restful, right? So why do you spend the majority of your night tossing and turning, trying to get comfortable, and watching the hours tick by on the clock? There are a few things that could be causing your discomfort and lack of sleep, the main one being your mattress! We have a few tips on how to create the best night’s sleep:

Have Support

Why do you toss and turn in the night? As a mattress ages, it loses its shape. Have you ever slept in a bed that has a dent in the middle? That’s a clear sign that the mattress should have been replaced long ago. A saggy mattress or one that has simply lost its shape doesn’t provide you with the support you need throughout the night. Because your muscles have to work harder at staying in a comfortable or neutral position, you end up tossing and turning to try and find a more comfortable position. This means that you’re not getting the best sleep you could.

Stay Healthy

Did you know that mattresses are a perfect breeding ground for various bacteria and dust mites? Between warmth from your body heat and food from your dead skin cells, millions of dust mites can live in a single mattress alone. Many people don’t realize that if you’re being kept awake at night, it could easily be because of nighttime allergies. The allergens that get caught in your mattress make for a restless night of sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes, or a sore throat. Saving money on not buying a mattress doesn’t really mean saving your health when you’re sleeping on a mattress that is infested with allergens.

Get Personal

Mattresses are not “one size fits all”. Some people need more support, while others choose plush comfort. The size of your frame dictates the size of your mattress. A petite person would not necessarily need a California King, while someone with a larger frame would not find a Twin mattress too comfortable. Decide what’s right for you, your bedroom space, and your sleep partner, if you have one. Test out mattresses in the store; it’s recommended that you lay on a mattress in your normal sleeping position for at least 15 minutes in order to be able to tell whether or not you would truly find that mattress comfortable.

If you’re suffering from nighttime allergies, aches and pains in the mornings, and nights filled with tossing and turning, it may be time to buy a new mattress. Sit ‘n Sleep offers a variety of mattresses to allow each customer to find exactly what they need for the most rejuvenating night’s sleep.
